Converting Invoice / Receipt to Text — What You Should Know
Invoices are among the cleanest documents for OCR — they're typeset, have consistent structure, and use clear typefaces. The part that usually needs human review is numbers: amounts, tax codes, and line totals are small and often right-aligned, making them prime candidates for misreading. A 0 read as O, or a 1 as l, completely changes an amount. Extract the text, then spot-check every number before using it for bookkeeping or accounting software. Phone photos of invoices work but flatbed scanner images or PDFs are far more reliable.

Invoice / Receipt to Text — Frequently Asked Questions
Can I extract invoice data for my accounting software?▼
Yes. The text extraction is clean and structured, but always verify amounts and tax codes — those small numbers are the error-prone part of invoice OCR.
Why do some numbers come out wrong?▼
Numbers in invoices are small, often right-aligned and packed tightly. A 0 can be misread as O, or 1 as l. It's the reason invoices need a quick spot-check despite otherwise high accuracy.
Does it work on old or faded invoices?▼
Legible faded text works. Heavily damaged or water-stained invoices lose accuracy as contrast drops. Flatbed scanner images give you the best result from difficult originals.
Can it read invoices in different languages?▼
Yes, the OCR handles multiple languages including right-to-left scripts. The payment structure and amounts are international, so multilingual invoices work.
