Translating Chinese to English — What to Expect

Both Simplified and Traditional characters are read without you selecting a variant. The accuracy ceiling here is set by image resolution rather than by the translation step: Chinese characters pack a lot of detail into a small space, and characters that differ by a single stroke become indistinguishable in a low-resolution photo — which then produces a confidently wrong translation. Check the extracted Chinese panel against the image before relying on the English. Chinese is dense, so a short line of characters often expands into a much longer English sentence.

How It Works

1

Upload the image

Drag and drop or click to select any image containing Chinese text — a photo, scan or screenshot.

2

Text is read as Chinese

The AI is told the source is Chinese, so it transcribes the text in its own script before translating.

3

Get English output

The original Chinese and the English translation appear side by side. Copy either one.

Chinese to English — Frequently Asked Questions

Does it read Simplified and Traditional Chinese?▼

Both, automatically. You don't need to specify which variant is in the image — the characters are recognised either way and then translated into English.

Why is the translation sometimes wrong in a confident-sounding way?▼

Because translation happens after extraction. If a character was misread — common with low-resolution images, since many characters differ by one stroke — the translation of that wrong character reads perfectly fluently. Always check the extracted Chinese panel.

Can it translate Chinese menus and signs?▼

Yes, and these are among the most common uses. Get close enough that the characters fill a good portion of the frame; distant shots of signage lose the stroke detail that recognition depends on.
