Translating English to Chinese — What to Expect

The output here is Simplified Chinese (简体), which is standard in mainland China and Singapore. If you specifically need Traditional characters for Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau, run the result through a Simplified-to-Traditional converter afterwards, since this direction produces Simplified only. Expect the Chinese translation to be visually much shorter than the English source — Chinese conveys in a handful of characters what English needs a full clause for, which matters if you're fitting the text into a fixed layout.

Text is read as English

English to Chinese — Frequently Asked Questions

Do I get Simplified or Traditional Chinese?▼

Simplified Chinese, which is the standard form in mainland China and Singapore. For Traditional characters used in Taiwan and Hong Kong, convert the output with a Simplified-to-Traditional tool after translating.

Can I use this for product packaging or marketing copy?▼

It's useful for drafts and comprehension, but have a native speaker review anything customer-facing. Machine translation handles meaning better than tone, and marketing copy depends heavily on tone.

Why is the Chinese so much shorter than my English text?▼

That's expected. Chinese is far more compact — a sentence that takes fifteen English words may need only six or seven characters. The meaning is preserved even though the length drops sharply.
